Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

HCS SCS SB 281 -- COUNTY GOVERNMENT

SPONSOR: Shields (Brown)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Local Government by a vote of 17 to 0.

This substitute allows any county of the first classification to
acquire, own, erect, operate, manage, and maintain buildings and
property outside the limits of the established seat of justice.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that first classification counties
will save money because they will no longer have to rent property
in other parts of the county. The county could purchase property
for offices to serve residents of a more populated area.

Testifying for the bill were Senator Shields; and Platte County.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
